Inspired by my deep connection to the ocean and concern for environmental sustainability, I created "From Trash to Art" as a way to address the growing issue of plastic waste along the Rhine in the city of Arnhem. By designing an interactive trash bin in the shape of a fish, this project transforms waste disposal into a creative act, encouraging the public to engage with the environment in a new way. The installation not only reduces litter but also raises awareness about the impact of pollution on aquatic life.

ASK

The challenge I set for myself was to create a project that addressed the growing plastic waste problem along the Rhine river in Arnhem through an interactive tool, while also incorporating an animation to introduce my idea.

I wanted to design something that would not only reduce waste but also engage people in a unique and creative way. The project needed to encourage environmental awareness and inspire action, using both an interactive installation and an accompanying animation to communicate the concept effectively.

IDEA

The solution to the problem was an interactive trash bin that transforms plastic waste into art.

The trash bin, shaped like a fish, connects the act of disposing of trash with protecting aquatic life. As people fill the bin with waste, it gradually forms a fish sculpture made of plastic, raising awareness about the effects of pollution on the river's ecosystem.

OUTCOME

The "Interactive Fish Trash Bin" transformed how people interacted with their environment along the Rhine.

The bin not only reduced litter but also created a visual and interactive experience that encouraged people to think about their impact on the environment. By turning waste into art, the project made environmental awareness accessible and engaging, inspiring others to take action.
